Whakapapa Ski Fields Snow Challenge 2013
It was decided at this July's Governance meeting that we would go for a trip to the Whakapapa ski fields to learn how to snowboard and ski on the 15th to 17th July. Ali thought that we should have a bake off and the winner does not have to do any dishes during our trip which really motivated the group to bake something nice lucky us. The trip brought together 17 past and present Yroa Ynot governance members.
On Monday evening everything fell into place; everyone was keen and ready to go. Making a small stop in at Taupo to pick up Jonelle and let the group get something to bite. Arrived at the house, which was very fitting for the group who made themselves at home. After everyone settled in we taste tested everyone's baking to judge who's was the best and who will not have to do any dishes for our entire stay. Which Megan definitely hands down won with her yummy cookies. Everyone was excited for the next day and got some shut eye.
We woke up early to a beautiful sunny day for the snow. We had a few hiccups on the way up to the mountain but we eventually made it up there with the help of Ngari's skills. The group had an absolutely amazing time, some had never touched snow, skied or snowboarded before and was good to challenge them with this activity. Some found it easy, some found it challenging but still had fun and they enjoyed themselves. After the snow it was so good to relax and soak in the Tokaanu Thermal Hot Pools after our long eventful day.
With our last night of the trip we all played games which was a lot of fun and lots of laughs. Next morning was a lot of cleaning and everyone worked really well together to get the house clean and the vans packed and ready to go so everyone could go do some shopping in Taupo. We arrived safely in Wairoa and the trip was Tino Pai.
