GET ACTIVE Holiday Programme
During the first week of the Term 2 school holidays the YROA YNOT crew joined forces with the Wairoa Youth Services Trust & Wairoa Community Centre to enjoy the GET ACTIVE PROGRAMME.
Roughly 30 rangatahi were involved over 3 days of engaging, youth-led actitvities.
Each day started with karakia and icebreakers ending with a debrief circle as a chance for young people to interact and feedback.
Day 1 included youth games designed to help introductions between the rangatahi & bonding. (whakawhanaungatanga)
Following that everyone went down to the Wairoa Riverbank for workshops - brainstorming & discussing topics such as: What are your needs and concerns for the community? Who are the positive leaders in our town? How can we as young people contribute back to our community?
These were done through a mixture of peer & individual games.
Day 2 saw everyone visit the Wairoa Community Centre for pool games followed by a competitive round of dodgeball.
Day 3 was the final day were the rangatahi lead activities such as sewless cushion making and cooking stations for pizzas & deserts. Finishing the day off with a Movie Screening where everyone enjoyed the kai and comfort of their creations.
